Something Worth Talking About

It's been awhile since I posted a blog here about anything.

It's not that there hasn't been things I wanted to say, it's just that when the time comes that I can actually post something I lose my thought, get distracted by other things in life, or just am too lazy to put anything to words.

Recently I've been mulling my thoughts over recent current events, events that were first brought to my attention on Twitter via the "Trending Topics." Now, since I know some out there keep themelves pretty isolated from the outside world (by 'outside world' I mean 'outside the continental US') I'll give a short rehash as to what happened that spurred, and led up to what is happening today.

Recently the country of Iran had an election where the former, and currently the current President, Ahmadinejad won in what was announced to be a landslide victory. However, the Iranian people disagreed with such a triumphant victory and took to the streets to protest in a peaceful manner. However, the Iranian regime didn't much care for this peaceful protesting and, with the backing of Irans Supreme Leader , Iran began to crack down on the protests.

Since then Iran has been in turmoil with the streets filled with people marching, getting beating, and even killed but not stopping even as the Police and Army shoot in to the crowds killing and maiming many.

A year, two years ago and beyond I don't beleive anybody in the world could have predicted this was going to happen---not even Iran's tyranical regime likely did not see such a backlash coming as they have worked long and hard to suppress the will of the people while forcing idealogical dogma on to the people of Iran.

Nobody expected for the Iranians to revolt. Most expected a war against Iran before they changed internally and their unvaforable image to reverse as a young girl was gunned down by a cowardly sniper where she quickly bled to death from the wound to her lungs:

Her name was Neda, and this is what her sister had to say:

"Yesterday I wrote a note, with the subject line “tomorrow is a great day perhaps tomorrow I’ll be killed.” I’m here to let you know I’m alive but my sister was killed…I’m here to tell you my sister died while in her father’s hands
I’m here to tell you my sister had big dreams…
I’m here to tell you my sister who died was a decent person… and like me yearned for a day when her hair would be swept by the wind… and like me read “Forough” [Forough Farrokhzad]… and longed to live free and equal… and she longed to hold her head up and announce, “I’m Iranian”… and she longed to one day fall in love to a man with a shaggy hair… and she longed for a daughter to braid her hair and sing lullaby by her crib…

my sister died from not having life… my sister died as injustice has no end… my sister died since she loved life too much… and my sister died since she lovingly cared for people…"

Time for Change in Iran. It's up to the Iranians to ensure Neda did not die in vain.

Change by the people, for the people.

Many of us don't know what that means anymore.

Quick post.

That KiwiBox article is here.

Not much to say other then that :)

Monday, March 2, 2009

Ok, time for a new blog.

How are you all doing?

Been awhile since I wrote anything here. I'd like to say it's because I've been busy but in reality it's been a case of writers block. Or more to the point I've been distracted by alot of other things...like my X-Box playing Halo and Mass Effect. That problem isn't going to get any better when Halo Wars comes out tonight.

I just finished an article for KiwiBox today, which should be published tomorrow/tonightish.

Now I'm not getting paid for it, I'm a freelancer, but it gives me something to write for. And it helps me practice my writing chops.

I'll be sure to post the link to it here when it comes out.

In the meantime, I thought I'd post this here so you all don't think I've forgotten I have a blog of my own. Maybe I'll get around to wrighting a short story or two to post here in the future.

Until then, later!

Freinds and their themes...

Every week or so, I put together a list of all my friends over at www.roosterteeth.com and then randomize through my music giving them all a theme song for said week.

Well, it's to the point now that I have so many friends that I can no longer post the entire list in one post on a journal over there...because the character limit is absurdly low.

Political Rant #1

It's a new year, and with the onset of a new year the political landscape of the country (the United States, my country for the off chance that I get some outside of the US folks here) will be changing for the foreseeable next four years. Actually, the political landscape changed the moment Obama, who will be the Commander in Chief tomorrow, was declared winning of the election that didn’t seem to end and whose platform was based solely on change and the phrase “Yes. We. Can.”
He not only won the electoral vote, but he handily won the popular vote too (54%, with Virginia voting Democrat for the first time in decades while not bothering to count the military absentee ballots from overseas) and became the first president of African descent to become the president of the most powerful and influential country in the history of the world.
While it is a great thing that he got elected I have many reservations about Obama.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not bitter in the least. I’m actually very happy that such a man was finally elected in to the highest office that can be held in our country. I am, however, frustrated with the ‘why’ he was voted in.
You see, people were eager to vote somebody in because he promised ’change’ while his absolute lack of experience when it comes to leading anything. Change and the unthinking hate directed at President Bush who had the unfortunate timing to become president of the US months before the events of Sept 11, 2001; an event that obviously set many more events and decisions in to motion the war that was to come.
I guess the thing the disgusts me the most at this point is the media’s willingness to take sides in politics with 3/4ths of the media fawning over Obama while doing everything they could to smear/bury McCain with so much spin and vitrol that facts weren’t evident till the tail end of the election where by that time it was much too late for the Republican party to repair the damage that had been done.
But what’s done is done, but any faith in the media that I had (with the exception of Fox because they were the only ones I could get both sides of the spectrum on--seriously, I was deployed and watched CNN and FOX shows one after the other) which is a feeling that I think I will carry on in to Obama’s president where I will direct my disdain towards him for the crap that I watched and witness not only on TV but on the web where people no less then worshipped the man and sang praises in his honor.
I mean it’s only fair right? After putting up with 8 years of hear say and vitrol from people who want Bush tried on ‘war crimes’, a lot for deaths of soldiers and civilians in a war zone when the casualties in this war have been the lowest that we’ve ever had in a prolonged conflict since the Revolutionary War.

…but you know what? Tomorrow Obama will be elected, and maybe he’ll bring the change we need. Let’s hope so, because my gut, and experience tells me that this change could hurt us all in the wrong places.

And maybe my confidence in the man will grow

New to Blogspot.

Needed a place to post thoughts, rants, and stories 'anonymously'. Or more along the lines where people of the fam I don't want reading said thoughts. Just in case, if you know what I mean.

I will post more later when I come up with something to post about, eh? Cool.
